I know the benefits of meditation (I tried it a few times), but it’s just not for me (yet). I do believe showing care for my mind is important, so I looked into another method – mindfulness.
Mindfulness invites you to:
- be present in the moment
- stop dwelling on the past
- stop worrying about the future
- acknowledge your emotions without judgment
- notice your thoughts and let them go
- concentrate on your breath
The best part about mindfulness? It can be practiced anywhere, anytime, and even just for a few minutes.
Here are my favorite activities for practicing mindfulness:
1. During gym exercise I concentrate on my breath or the pain of a single muscle.
2. I paint “intuitional” and abstract paintings (I am still unaware of my artistic talents 😊). I concentrate only on the colors, brush movement, and paint texture.
3. During eating (though not a quick snack) I concentrate on feeling the texture of each small bite, and notice the composition of tastes and smells.
Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine – you will become more aware and at peace. You may reduce stress and build resilience.
