Options SWOT Analysis For Job Selection
SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) is a well-known method for strategic analysis of favorable and unfavorable factors before making any decisions. The SWOT technique can be used to assess your competitive advantage, as well as knowledge or skills gaps, for a new job or career you are pursuing.
Identifying unfavorable factors does not mean that the analyzed option is not attenable, but is a basis for designing a plan for long-term development to bridge the gaps and become the best match.
Create SWOTs For Various Job Options
Select two to five job areas that you are the most interested in pursuing in the future. Analyze each of the jobs from the following points of view to see which areas you can play to your advantage and which gaps you will have to narrow.
Strengths – Which personal characteristics like skills, experience, training, certificates, etc. make you a match for this job?
Weaknesses – What skills, experience, training, certificates, etc. you lack for this job? How difficult would be to make up for these gaps?
Opportunities – What external circumstances can act in your favor (e.g., a company planning expansion in your area)?
Threats – What external circumstances can sabotage your plans (e.g., a threat of AI replacing this profession)?
