Should You Buy a Sports Car In Midlife Crisis?

I’m not a male in a midlife crisis, but I bought a sports car. And I think it is perfectly OK.

(I mean both – buying a car, as well as not being a male 😊 ).

I dreamt of having a sports car for ages.

Two-sitter, big engine, convertible.

But it was not suitable for a family, and I couldn’t afford a second car just for my pleasure.

When I reached midlife two things happened:

  • My daughters left home and became independent
  • I got an offer to move abroad for work

I didn’t hesitate for a moment, and right after settling down I bought my dream car (I gave up on convertible, though).

These simple points will help you to decide if your idea of buying a sports car at midlife crisis is justifiable.

Go for it if:

  • It was always your dream
  • You can afford it without huge sacrifices
  • Your friends think it is a crazy idea 😊
  • It will make you happy
  • You convince your closest ones that there is nothing to worry about

Think twice, three times (and then abandon the idea) if:

  • It just suddenly came to your mind
  • You think it is a necessary male thing at this age
  • You hope it will impress your old friends and help you find new friends or partners
  • You treat it as a symbol of being young, successful, ambitious
  • People you know bought such cars already and you cannot stand comparison

Whatever you do, do it for yourself.

Give yourself a gift.

Make yourself happy.

It’s not about others. What is your dream that you would be able to pursue when you are free in midlife?
